How we worked this out
- A 9 x 13 in sheet cut into 2 x 2 in pieces gives about 29 portions. Ask the baker whether it yields 24 to 36 portions at the chosen height.
- Wilton cake serving guide: For 4-inch-high cakes, the 8-inch round yields about 20 party or 24 wedding servings. The 9 x 13 sheet yields about 36 party or 50 wedding servings.
How the estimate works
The number eating dessert rounds up. A 4-inch cake can use the Party portions chart or Wedding portions chart at the listed dimensions. Otherwise, servings come from your slice size or the baker's count.
Ask the baker for the real yield at your chosen slice size. Frosting and trimming can reduce the usable cake.
